We trade as “Ethical Weigh Co-Op”, but formally, as a legal entity, we are “Ethical Weigh Community Benefit Society”.
We are a community owned enterprise, governed by our Rules and any profits we make are re-invested in the Co-Op and in our wider community.
Founded 2020
Ethical Weigh is a family business founded in February 2020 run by Sinead and Paul Burley and is based in Eglinton.
Our shop is a refill, plastic free venture centred around the idea of reusing and repurposing already existing packaging, following the concept of a circular economy. We stock everything from fruit and veg to hair care to dried goods and much much more.
What we started from:
We started Ethical Weigh because we were frustrated that there were no other alternatives to shopping sustainably than to buy plastic, and lots of it, so we decided to do something about that.
Sinead & Paul
Sinead was a teacher for 25 years and is currently a yoga teacher in our very own studio. She is also very passionate about the planet, animals, and nature.
Paul was a chef for 34 years and has a flair for food, martial arts and is an avid beekeeper.
As long-time vegetarians, we found there were never more than a few options on the menu for us, so we wanted to create an extensive, healthy, yet tasty fully vegan Food to Go & EWC Café section of our shop.
We now have expanded and added a Café @ Ethical Weigh! This was our vision from the very beginning but our plans had to be delayed due to the pandemic. We are delighted to now be offering delicious vegan & vegetarian food in our sit-in Café, as well as our Food to Go.
Our Suppliers.
We source our products and ingredients from high quality, local suppliers. Many are based less than an hour away from our shop in Eglinton. Locally roasted coffee, microgreens grown in the Sperrins and pottery from Donegal are all on offer, alongside much more.
